Chef John Wainwright

With a CV that reads just as well as a travel diary as it does as a glittering record of an exceptional career, Executive Chef John Wainwright has been with the Legacy group since February 1997, having worked at the Kwa-Maritane Bush Lodge for seven years before joining Bakubung Bush Lodge. Prior to that, John has held positions at several four- and five-star hotels and resorts across the county, including Sun City and other hotels in the Legacy group.

John's vast experience of South African cities, small towns and wild bush regions has resulted in a culinary expertise that shows itself in every aroma and flavour that he produces. From his exquisite a la carte and buffet offerings in the Bakubung restaurant, to the truly African bush braais in the boma, it doesn't get more South African - or indeed African - than this. John's love of diversity and variety means a daily change of his - this is why you will find no printed menus in our restaurant.

With almost 40 years' culinary experience under his belt, you will be delighted to find yourself being treated to his very capable gastronomic skills - whether served in comfort or style, or outside, roughing it under African skies.
