Our Legacy

As part of our commitment to being a responsible citizen, the Bakubung Bush Lodge is involved in a number of community upliftment projects in the area.

The Tapologo HIV Clinic

Bakubung Bush Lodge supplies food (stew and pap) every Monday morning to the Tapologo HIV Clinic, which operates in Ledig. The clinic has approximately 60 patients attending each Monday to collect their ARVs - many of whom are children as young as seven years old.

The Bakubung HIV Clinic

On the first Friday of every month, Bakubung Bush Lodge heads out to the Bakubung HIV clinic, where we supply food to the patients, who come to collect their monthly ARVs.

Other contributions

• We regularly donate furniture, clothing, linen, building materials, etc, to local charities, such as hospice, schools, orphanages or clinics.
• We also get requests from various charities in Ledig, which we support on a 'request' basis.
• We assist the Ledig community in general, for example by donating bricks to the Tribal Office so that they could build a wall around their local cemetery.

HIV/ Wellness Peer Educator Program

Bakubung is piloting the Legacy HIV/Wellness Peer Educator Program, which will in time include all Legacy properties.  A number of Peer Educators from Bakubung and Kwa Maritane have undergone training in order that they are able to assist/ counsel their peers who have HIV/Aids, or any other health or social problem.

The training includes information about transmission of Aids, prevention of Aids, myths and Beliefs surrounding Aids and also covers relevant social, medical and nutritional topics.
